Israel/Palestine
For the international premiere of United in Anger, Sarah Schulman arranged a tour of Israel and Palestine that adhered to the principles of BDS. We showed the film at an art gallery in Ramallah and one in Tel Aviv, an Arab theater in Jerusalem, a women's center in Haifa, a queer community center and a cooperative cafe in Jerusalem.
14:04 -- The Old City, Jerusalem. Sarah and I at the Western Wall and the Al-Aqsa Mosque
24:27 -- A Drag Show at a Jerusalem Gay Bar
33:15 -- Walking atop the walls of the Old City
40:00 -- Sonya Solviviov too me to witness the weekly Friday protests against the illegal settlement near Bil'in. The tear gas was relatively easy to avoid, though one cannister landed very near me. Fortunately, the wind was blowing away from me. I stayed far away from the Skunk Water, shot from water cannons, this appaling liquid mixture of chemicals that smells like fermented shit and is designed to stick to your clothes and skin for weeks.
01:00:42 -- An Israeli tear gas cannister between my legs
01:31:15 -- Sarit Michaeli gave me a highly personal tour of the West Bank.
