Jim Hubbard's Berlin Redux

I was in Berlin in September 2019 for an AIDS Archiving conference. I decided to try to re-film the places that appear in Jim Hubbard's Berlin, but, of course, I couldn't figure out exactly where I was standing after more than 30 years. Also, some things have changed dramatically. In particular, Der Palast Der Republik has been torn down and replaced by a ridiculous reconstruction of the Berlin Palace that is so expensive they can't finish it. Because of the construction going on, I couldn’t stand in the same spot as I had in the 1980s to film the Cathedral and the Palace. Also, since this is video, I could film much more and I could see it instantaneously. Each reel of Super-8 was three minutes and twenty seconds long and took 45 minutes to process and hours to dry. Das Gute Buch no longer exists and I couldn't figure out where it had been. The Centrum has become the Galeria, the stores have changed, but the television tower is still there and in a strange way Alexanderplatz remains essentially the same.
